The #ZomgNews podcast will no longer be running, with the ABC opting to axe the podcast, ABC News has confirmed.
News.com, a podcast network and online service that launched in the US in December, announced the podcast was being axed last month.
Zomgnews had launched in January with two podcasts – one featuring women and the other featuring men.
Newsreader host and author Sarah Bickford has been hosting the podcast for three years, and was in talks to continue until 2019.
In a statement on the podcast’s Facebook page, the ABC said the podcast “had a very strong following in Australia and around the world”.
“We will be looking at the future of the podcast and how we can best support it in the future,” the statement said.
“The ABC is committed to bringing Zomgnories podcasts to audiences around the globe.”
Newsreader co-host Laura Bailey said in a statement: “We’re thrilled to announce that Zomgnews will not be running after the next few weeks, but will continue to be produced and produced on our own terms, independently.”
“We can’t thank you enough for the support of your listeners, who’ve made Zomgg so much fun and exciting.”
Zomggnews was launched on the social media platform in 2015 and has since been nominated for an Emmy.
