In 2019, India’s GDP grew by 6.9%, but the unemployment rate was almost double that.
The country has a population of just over 1.2 billion and the GDP is about 4% below its pre-crisis peak.
The government says it is on track to achieve a budget surplus of about 4.5% of GDP by 2022.
India’s economy is forecast to expand 4% this year.
