SAN FRANCISCO — CBS News’ Host Love Island host David Gregory will leave CBS in the coming days after President Donald Trump tweeted out a series of offensive and threatening tweets about him.
Gregory’s departure comes days after he apologized for his Twitter outburst and said he is not taking back his words.
Gregories tweet about Trump, which came after the president lashed out at NFL players who kneeled during the national anthem, was shared more than 600,000 times.
Gregors tweets included a photo of him and President Trump surrounded by a Confederate flag and a reference to the phrase, “The world needs a champion.”
The president then added, “We will continue to stand with our heroes, our military, our police and the men and women of law enforcement.”
Gregories response drew widespread condemnation, with critics calling for him to apologize to Trump and others calling for the network to fire him.
CBS fired Gregory in January after it said he made racist and sexist comments about African-Americans and called African-American police officers “scumbags.”
